1815 - POTATO - AGRIA
Suitable for late sowing; long oval tuber with yellow skin and flesh. Floury flesh, excellent both for domestic use for purée and gnocchi, and for industry.
Sowing: The varieties we have selected are certified. It is important to rotate every 4 years and not to plant in soil where another solanaceous plant had previously been grown, nor to follow it with other solanaceous plants. A rotation could be: potatoes, legumes, brassicas, other vegetables. In furrows 10 cm deep, bury the tubers whole or cut in half, if rather large, in late winter-early spring. In southern Italy, you can start in mid-winter. Distances: The early varieties are spaced 60-70 cm between rows and 30 cm on the row. The late varieties 70-80 cm between rows and 40 cm on the row. Advice: The best soils are loose, fresh, deep, fertilized. When the shoot is 5-10 cm high, eliminate the weeds and earth up the soil to a height of 30-35 cm to prevent the tubers from turning green. When fully ripe, stems and leaves begin to turn yellow. If necessary, treatments are carried out with specific low-toxicity insecticides. Seed required: 20-25 kg of tubers per 100 m2 of land. In optimal conditions, harvesting is carried out from May to September. The harvest can vary from 300 to 400 kg. per 100 m2.
